Profile of the series

The U-series presents practical teaching projects, ideally tried and tested in practice, which are suitable as models for competence-promoting teaching of German as a school subject, i.e. teaching that focuses on abilities, skills, reflection, creativity and motivation. The teaching projects are series of lessons on a specific topic, genre or author, on a grammatical phenomenon, a type of text, etc.; in individual cases they can also be designed as individual lessons. The projects described are didactically sound, factually analytical and offer possibilities for implementation in class. The materials provided for this purpose should be freely accessible (idea of Open Educational Resources) and can be adapted by teachers as needed for their own lessons. The idea is that the materials can be further developed, commented on and adapted – also within the series.

The series is aimed at teachers of German (including trainee teachers), at those involved in the training of German teachers (university lecturers, teacher trainers) and at university students.

Contributions are equally welcome on language, literature or media didactic projects in the field of German teaching as well as projects that combine two or more of these perspectives. This expressly includes projects that reflect current cross-cutting school tasks such as inclusion (with a broad concept of inclusion including social disadvantage, support for the highly gifted, etc.), the implementation of the KMK-strategy (Conference of Ministers of Education and Cultural Affairs) "Education in the digital world" or the concept "Education for sustainable development" in relation to language and literary learning.

The decision on the acceptance of submitted manuscripts for publication in the series will be made by the editorial team on the basis of a double-blind peer review and taking into account both a German didactic and a school-practical perspective.

Submission and review of manuscripts:

Interested authors submit an article, which is then reviewed by the editors for its basic suitability for the series. The manuscript should be prepared with standard formatting and submitted in one of the document formats *.DOCX or *.RTF; graphics are to be embedded in the manuscript as well as enclosed in the form of separate, reproducible files with a resolution of at least 300dpi. Other formats (e.g. in the case of multimedia materials) must be discussed with a member of the editorial staff before submission.

The editorial board will appoint two reviewers who will review the manuscript in double blind peer review mode and make a recommendation on the acceptability of the manuscript. The reviewers will focus on the technical and didactic quality of the manuscript as well as its suitability for use in schools. The result of the review will be made available to the authors. In the case of suggestions for revision, the authors are given sufficient time to incorporate them into their manuscript. After completion of the review process, the authors will convert their manuscript - if necessary, revised - into a reproducible template that meets the layout specifications of the series, using a template and style sheet that is provided by the editors.
